«scriBit»: Digitale Felsmalerei

Felsmalereien verweisen auf Rituale, Territorien und Ereignisse prähistorischer Zeit. Auf Fels gezeichnet sind gejagte Elche, Bären, Büffel und geometrische Symbole, die womöglich als Ergebnis einer Trance entstanden sind. «scriBit» verknüpft den Prozess des Schreibens und die Magie der Bits.

Der steile Aufstieg zum Fels, das kapriziöse Wetter und scharfkantiges Gestein unter Händen und Füssen waren meine Herausforderungen. Ich trug wenige Dinge mit mir: Thermchrome Farbe, Heizlack, Leitlack, dünner Kupferdraht, heisse Luft, Strom, Code und ein wenig Elektronik.

Nach dem Auftrag der Farben setze ich die Felsmalerei unter Strom. Fernab der Zivilisation, zählt der Fels. 7 feuerrote Segmente erscheinen und verschwinden, formen Zahlen.

Felsmalerei wird zur digital schreibenden Schrift.

Rock paintings reference rituals, territories, or events from prehistoric times. Drawings of symbols and hunting scenes with elk, bears, and buffalo may haven arisen as a result of a trance. «scriBit» refers to the process of writing and the magic of bits.

My challenges were the steep climb up to the cliff, the cold and capricious weather, and the sharp rock underfoot. I took few things with me: thermochromic pigment, heating paint, conductive silver lacquer, thin copper wire, hot air and a simple electronic circuit.

After applying the paints I activated the rock painting with electric current. Far from civilization, the rock is counting. Seven fire-red segments appear and disappear, forming numerals.

Rock painting becomes digital writing that writes itself.
